CHRISTMAS AT HORSESHOE BAY!


We've enjoyed our home in Horseshoe Bay for over twenty years. However, we've only spent two Christmas Days in Horseshoe. When I decorated the tree in 2001, I decorated with a red and purple theme. Back then I wasn't quite as picky about the details and the girls were also much younger - 12, 11, 9, and 7, so I didn't have as much time to be creative! So for Christmas 2020 I went all out "creatively." The ten foot tree is covered with multi-colored lights. I thought multi-colored would be more fun for the lake. Also, in 2000 the tree was on sale after Christmas at Miss Caycee's! I draped the 2020 tree with red, purple, gold and green lame' fabric. I started with each piece of fabric at the top and "zig-zagged" it down the tree and at each connection point I attached purple bows with gold berries, multi-colored plaid bows, or red and green bows. The finial dabra or "tree topper" was a purple, red, gold and green Christopher Radko that I purchased in 2000. FYI - I learned the term finial dabra from the Hallmark movie, "Christmas At The Plaza." I then added ornaments in red, green, gold and purple. The tree skirt was purple and beaded with gold, red, and green beads.

I decorated the dining room table with red, gold, and purple sequin runners. I added a vase filled with colored glass balls and added gold candelabras, and I set the table with gold chargers, white china and gold and white salad plates. I used my gold flatware and multi-colored napkins with gold napkin rings. It's so much fun to come up with a design and theme and then shop for the decor! I love to mix china patterns and crystal patterns in fun colors! I also decorated the mantle with lighted garland with colored balls and hung stockings. All of the bannisters were adorned with lighted garland and bows. I carried the "color" theme throughout the house. We enjoyed a Christmas Day Dinner of traditional goodies - Aunt Patsy's Dressing and my Triple Chocolate Fantasy Torte were the highlights! We enjoyed a "Mimosa" Brunch with one our family favorites - Nancy Loyd's yummy danish! If you get the chance - order some from her! She lives in Midland and takes orders for the danish beginning in September! We spent New Years at the Horseshoe as well and had a lot of fun, family time!
